• If there is any vehicle malfunction complaint lodged by a customer, perform FOREWORD [PARKING SENSOR] malfunction diagnosis according to the troubleshooting procedure. (See FOREWORD [PARKING SENSOR].)

Description

Buzzer does not sound after ignition is switched ON and the selector lever (AT)/Shift lever (MT) is in the R position.

Possible Causes

•  Parking assist unit power supply malfunction

―  Open circuit in wiring harness between IG1 relay and parking assist unit terminal U

―  Short to ground in wiring harness between IG1 relay and parking assist unit terminal U

―  C/U IG1 15 A fuse damage, burnt out

•  Malfunction in parking assist unit ground

―  Open circuit in wiring harness between parking assist unit terminal Q and body ground

―  Ground point lifting or loosening

•  Volume adjustment of buzzer is at minimum

•  Buzzer circuit malfunction

―  Open or short circuit in wiring harness between parking assist unit terminal Y and parking sensor buzzer terminal B

―  Open or short circuit in wiring harness between parking assist unit terminal Z and parking sensor buzzer terminal A

•  Parking sensor buzzer malfunction

•  Parking assist unit malfunction

INSPECT PARKING ASSIST UNIT POWER SUPPLY

•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

•  Measure the voltage at parking assist unit terminal U.

•  Is the voltage B+?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

•  Inspect the C/U IG1 15 A fuse.

If the fuse is burned out:

•  Inspect and repair the wiring harness between the C/U IG1 15 A fuse and parking assist unit terminal U for a short circuit to the ground system.

If the fuse is not damaged or burned out:

•  Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a mid-connector between IG relay terminal C and parking assist unit terminal U.

If there is a mid-connector

•  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the mid-connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the mid-wiring harness for a open circuit.

•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction.

If there is no mid-connector

•  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction.

ADJUST BUZZER VOLUME

•  Adjust the buzzer volume.
(See BEEP SOUND ADJUSTMENT.)

•  Was the malfunction corrected?

Yes

Inspection completed (buzzer volume adjustment malfunction).

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT PARKING ASSIST UNIT GROUND CIRCUIT

•  Switch the ignition off.

•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
(See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

•  Disconnect the parking assist unit connector.

•  Verify the continuity between connector terminal Q on parking assist unit vehicle side and body ground.

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Inspect and repair the ground point for looseness, disengagement, or lifting.

Repair or replace the wiring harness.

No

Go to the next step.

INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN PARKING ASSIST UNIT AND PARKING SENSOR BUZZER FOR OPEN CIRCUIT

•  Disconnect the connectors of the parking sensor buzzer and parking assist unit.

•  Inspect for continuity between the following wiring harnesses:

―  Parking assist unit terminal Y and parking sensor buzzer terminal B

―  Parking assist unit terminal Z and parking sensor buzzer terminal A

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

•  Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a mid-connector between the following wiring harnesses:

―  Parking assist unit terminal Y and parking sensor buzzer terminal B

―  Parking assist unit terminal Z and parking sensor buzzer terminal A

If there is a mid-connector

―  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the mid-connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the mid-wiring harness for a open circuit.

―  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction.

If there is no mid-connector

―  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction.

INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN PARKING ASSIST UNIT AND PARKING SENSOR BUZZER FOR SHORT TO GROUND

•  Inspect for continuity between the following wiring harnesses:

―  Parking assist unit terminal Y and ground

―  Parking assist unit terminal Z and ground

•  Is there continuity?

Yes

•  Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a mid-connector between the following wiring harnesses:

―  Parking assist unit terminal Y and parking sensor buzzer terminal B

―  Parking assist unit terminal Z and parking sensor buzzer terminal A

If there is a mid-connector

―  Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the mid-connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the mid-wiring harness for a short to ground.

―  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction.

If there is no mid-connector

―  Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction.

No

Go to the next step.

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS PARKING SENSOR BUZZER OR PARKING ASSIST UNIT

•  Inspect the parking sensor buzzer.
(See PARKING SENSOR BUZZER INSPECTION.)

•  Is the parking sensor buzzer normal?

Yes

Replace the parking assist unit.

(See PARKING ASSIST UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No

Replace the parking sensor buzzer.

(See PARKING SENSOR BUZZER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

1		No	• Inspect the C/U IG1 15 A fuse. If there is no mid-connector • Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction.

Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	• Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a mid-connector between the following wiring harnesses: ― Parking assist unit terminal Y and parking sensor buzzer terminal B ― Parking assist unit terminal Z and parking sensor buzzer terminal A If there is a mid-connector ― Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the mid-connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the mid-wiring harness for a open circuit. ― Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction. If there is no mid-connector ― Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction.

Yes	• Refer to the wiring diagram and verify whether or not there is a mid-connector between the following wiring harnesses: ― Parking assist unit terminal Y and parking sensor buzzer terminal B ― Parking assist unit terminal Z and parking sensor buzzer terminal A If there is a mid-connector ― Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the mid-connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the mid-wiring harness for a short to ground. ― Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction. If there is no mid-connector ― Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a malfunction.
5		No	Go to the next step.
6	DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS PARKING SENSOR BUZZER OR PARKING ASSIST UNIT • Inspect the parking sensor buzzer. (See PARKING SENSOR BUZZER INSPECTION.) • Is the parking sensor buzzer normal?	Yes	Replace the parking assist unit. (See PARKING ASSIST UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
6		No	Replace the parking sensor buzzer. (See PARKING SENSOR BUZZER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
