REAR SHOCK ABSORBER INSPECTION

1. Remove the wheel and tire.
2. Inspect the rear shock absorber for damage.
3. Push up the dust boot to the point where the piston rod is visible as shown in the figure.

4. Inspect the rear shock absorber for oil leakage and if there is any malfunction, replace the rear shock absorber. (See REAR SHOCK ABSORBER AND COIL SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (See REAR SHOCK ABSORBER AND COIL SPRING DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY.)

Wipe off any dust or oil on the surface.

• Oil is running down in a strip past the spring seat along the side of the rear shock absorber as shown in the figure.

• Oil is running down past the spring seat along the side of the rear shock absorber as shown in the figure.

5. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
6. Remove the trunk end trim. (See TRUNK END TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
7. When working on the left side of the vehicle, remove the trunk covering. (See TRUNK COVERING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
8. When working on the left side of the vehicle, remove the partition board. (See PARTITION BOARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
9. Remove the trunk side trim. (See TRUNK SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
10. When working on the left side of the vehicle, remove the fuel-filler pipe protector. (See FUEL-FILLER PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 1.5, SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)
11. When working on the left side of the vehicle, remove the auto leveling sensor and the auto leveling sensor short cord as a single unit. (With auto leveling sensor) (See AUTO LEVELING SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (See AUTO LEVELING SENSOR SHORT-CORD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
12. Remove the rear shock absorber. (See REAR SHOCK ABSORBER AND COIL SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) (See REAR SHOCK ABSORBER AND COIL SPRING DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY.)
13. Compress and extend the rear shock absorber piston rod at least three times at a steady rate. From the fourth compression stroke, verify that the operational force does not change and that there is no unusual noise.
