STEERING SHIFT SWITCH INSPECTION [SJ6A-EL]

Warning
•  Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS.) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL.) (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION.)

3.  Disconnect the steering shift switch wiring harness connector.

4.  Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.  Using a precision flathead screwdriver, release the tab.

6.  Measure the continuity between steering shift switch wiring harness connector terminals A—B and terminals D—E.

•  If there is any malfunction, replace the steering shift switch. (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL].)
