STEERING SWITCH INSPECTION

Warning

•  Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the SRS air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag module. (SeeAIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS.) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the driver-side air bag module. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL.) (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION.)

Resistance Inspection

Volume switch, seek switch, mute button

1.  Measure the resistance between steering switch terminals 3H and 3J under the following conditions.

•  Resistance with volume switch (-) pressed and held

―  53.064—54.136 ohms

•  Resistance with volume switch (+) pressed and held

―  145.233—148.167 ohms

•  Resistance with seek switch (+) pressed and held

―  297.693—303.707 ohms

•  Resistance with seek switch (-) pressed and held

―  556.083—567.317 ohms

•  Resistance with mute button pressed and held

―  2,011.383—2,052.017 ohms

•  Resistance with any switch not pressed

―  4,813.083—4,910.317 ohms (without mute button)

―  4,981.383—5,082.017 ohms (with mute button)

•  If not as indicated in the table, replace the steering switch. (See STEERING SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Talk button, pick-up button, hang-up button

1.  Measure the resistance between steering switch terminals 3M and 3J under the following conditions.

•  Resistance with talk button pressed and held

―  103.95—106.05 ohms

―  271.26—276.74 ohms

•  Resistance with hang-up button pressed and held

―  657.36—670.64 ohms

•  Resistance with any switch not pressed

•  If not as indicated in the table, replace the steering switch. (See STEERING SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

INFO button

1.  Measure the resistance between steering switch terminals 3D and 3L under the following conditions.

•  Resistance with INFO button pressed and held

―  999.9—1,020.1 ohms

―  2,524.5—2,575.5 ohms

•  If not as indicated in the table, replace the steering switch. (See STEERING SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

LED Illumination Inspection

1.  Apply battery positive voltage to steering switch terminal 3F, and connect terminal 3B to ground.

2.  Verify that the LED illuminates.

•  If the LED does not illuminate, replace the steering switch. (See STEERING SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
