DESCRIPTION
|
• Performance is poor under load (such as power down when climbing hills).
|
POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Drive-by-wire control system operates with brake override system (from DE10**-134189,DE****-134191,DE10**-139795,DE****-139796)
• Poor fuel quality
• Air leakage from intake-air system
• Air cleaner restriction
• Restriction in intake-air system
• Vacuum leakage
• Continuous memory DTC is stored
• Engine overheating
• Erratic signal from APP sensor
• Erratic signal from CKP sensor
• Erratic signal from TP sensor
• Intermittent open or short circuit of APP sensor, IAT sensor, MAF sensor, TP sensor and VSS
• CKP sensor and teeth of the crankshaft pulley
• Spark plug malfunction
• Improper operation of drive-by-wire control system
• Restriction in exhaust system
• Inadequate fuel pressure
• Fuel pump mechanical malfunction
• Improper operation of variable tumble control
• Improper operation of variable intake air control (if equipped)
• Improper operation of A/C system
• Purge solenoid valve malfunction
• EVAP control system malfunction

Yes

Go to the applicable DTC inspection. (drive-by-wire controlsystem operates with brake override system.)

Inspect the following:
• Fuel quality (such as proper octane, contamination, winter/summer blend)
• No air leakage from the intake-air system
• No restriction of the intake-air system
• Proper sealing of the intake manifold and components attached to intake manifold: such as EGR valve
• Restriction in intake-air system (such as air cleaner element, fresh duct)
• Vacuum connection
Is there any malfunction?

Yes
|
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.
Repeat Step 2.

No
|
Go to the next step.

If the engine stalls:
• Perform the KOEO self test.
(See KOEO/KOER SELF TEST [ZJ, ZY].)
If the engine does not stall:
• Perform the KOEO and KOER self test.
(See KOEO/KOER SELF TEST [ZJ, ZY].)
Are any continuous memory DTCs present?

Go to the appropriate DTC inspection.

No

Go to the next step.

Is the engine overheating?

Yes

Go to the symptom troubleshooting “NO.17 COOLING SYSTEM CONCERNS-OVERHEATING”.

Perform the PID/DATA Monitor and Record Procedure and access the following PIDs:
• APP1, APP2
• IAT
• MAF
• RPM
• TP REL, TP1, TP2
• VSS
Monitor the each PID while driving the vehicle.
Are the PIDs normal?
(See PCM INSPECTION [ZJ, ZY].)

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

APP1, APP2 PIDs are not specified:
• Inspect if output signal APP sensor changes smoothly.
IAT PID is not specified:
• Inspect for air suction in the intake-air system.
• If normal:
MAF PID is not specified:
• Inspect the MAF sensor and related wiring harness for such as vibration, intermittent open/short circuit.
RPM PID is not specified:
• Inspect the CKP sensor and related harness for such as vibration, intermittent open/short circuit.
TP1, TP2, TP REL PIDs are not specified:
• Inspect if the TP sensor output increases smoothly.
VSS PID is not specified (ATX):
• Inspect for open circuit of the VSS and related wire harness intermittently.
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

Visually inspect the CKP sensor and teeth of the crankshaft pulley.
Is there any malfunction?

Yes
|
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

No
|
Go to the next step.

Measure the gap between the CKP sensor and teeth of the crankshaft pulley.
• Specification
Is the gap within the specification?
|
Yes
|
Go to the next step.

No
|
Replace the crankshaft pulley.

Inspect the spark plug conditions.
Is the spark plug wet, covered with carbon or grayish white?
|
Yes
|
Spark plug is wet or covered with carbon:
• Inspect for fuel leakage from the fuel injector.
Spark plug is grayish white:
• Inspect for clogged the fuel injector.
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

No
|
Install the spark plugs on original cylinders.
Go to the next step.

Perform the Drive-by-wire Control System Inspection.
Does the throttle body operate properly?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|
No
|
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

Visually inspect the exhaust system part.
Is there any deformed exhaust system part?
|
Yes
|
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

Install the fuel pressure gauge between the fuel pipe and the fuel distributor.
Perform the Active Command Modes Procedure and turn On the fuel pump using the FP PID.
Is the fuel line pressure correct?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No
|
Zero or low:
• Inspect the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump unit related wiring harness.
High:
• Replace the fuel pump unit.

Inspect the variable tumble shutter valve actuator.
Is there any malfunction?

Yes

Replace the variable tumble shutter valve actuator.

No

Go to the next step.

Inspect the variable intake air shutter valve actuator.

Replace the variable intake air shutter valve actuator.

Connect the pressure gauge to the A/C low and high side pressure lines.
Turn the A/C on and measure low side and high side pressures.
Are the pressures within specifications?

If the A/C is always on:
• Go to the symptom troubleshooting “NO.24 A/C IS ALWAYS ON OR A/C COMPRESSOR RUNS CONTINUOUSLY”.
For other symptoms:
• Inspect the following:
• Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

Perform the A/C Cut-off Control System Inspection.
Does the A/C cut-off function properly?

Yes

Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

Disconnect the vacuum hose between the purge solenoid valve and the intake manifold from the purge solenoid valve side.
Plug opening end of vacuum hose.
Drive the vehicle.
Does the engine condition improve?

Yes

Inspect the purge solenoid valve (stuck open mechanically).
• If the purge solenoid valve is normal:
• If the purge solenoid valve has a malfunction:

• Brake system for dragging

Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

• If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
• If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform the repair or diagnosis.
