DTC P2008

Variable tumble control system (VTCS) shutter valve actuator control circuit malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION

• The PCM monitors the VTCS shutter valve actuator control signal at PCM terminals 2AF and 2AJ. If the PCM turns the VTCS shutter valve actuator open or closed but the voltages at PCM terminals 2AF and 2AJ do not coincide with the PCM signal voltages, the PCM determines that the VTCS shutter valve actuator circuit has a malfunction.
• The PCM could not perform the self-test for the VTCS shutter valve actuator control circuit.
Diagnostic support note
• This is continuous monitor (other).
• The MIL does not illuminate.
• The PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunctioning conditions during the first drive cycle.
• The FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• The DTC is stored in the PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• VTCS shutter valve actuator malfunction
• Short to power between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal A and PCM terminal 2AJ
• Short to ground between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal A and PCM terminal 2AJ
• Open circuit between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal A and PCM terminal 2AJ
• Short to power between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal B and PCM terminal 2AF
• Short to ground between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal B and PCM terminal 2AF
• Open circuit between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal B and PCM terminal 2AF
• Poor connection at VTCS shutter valve actuator or PCM
• PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
PERFORM the DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE
• Perform the DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE.
• Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent concern exists. Go to the INTERMITTENT CONCERN TROUBLESHOOTING procedure.
2
INSPECT VTCS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR CONNECTOR FOR POOR CONNECTION
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Disconnect the VTCS shutter valve actuator connector.
• Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged, pulled-out pins, and corrosion).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace terminal, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT VTCS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR MALFUNCTION
• Perform the VTCS shutter valve actuator inspection.
• Is the VTCS shutter valve actuator normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the VTCS shutter valve actuator, then go to Step 8.
4
INSPECT PCM CONNECTOR FOR POOR CONNECTION
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Disconnect the PCM connector.
• Inspect for poor connection at PCM terminals 2AF and 2AJ. (such as damaged, pulled-out pins, and corrosion)
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair the terminal, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT VTCS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR CONTROL FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
• Inspect for continuity between the followings:
- Between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal A (wiring harness-side) and PCM terminal 2AJ (wiring harness-side)
- Between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal B (wiring harness-side) and PCM terminal 2AF (wiring harness-side)
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for the open circuit, then go to Step 8.
6
INSPECT VTCS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
• Inspect for continuity between the followings:
- Between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal A (wiring harness-side) and body ground
- Between VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal B (wiring harness-side) and body ground
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace for a short to ground, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT VTCS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. (Engine off).
• Measure the voltage between the following wiring harness-side terminals:
- VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal A
- VTCS shutter valve actuator terminal B
• Is voltage at each terminal B+?
Yes
Repair or replace for a short to power, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P2008 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. (Engine off).
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the WDS or equivalent.
• Perform the KOEO/KOER self-test.
• Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform the "AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE".
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to applicable DTC troubleshooting.
(See DTC TABLE.)
No
Troubleshooting completed.
