Description

•  Rear window defroster switch circuit malfunction

Detection Condition

•  Rear window defroster switch is in a pressed condition for 2 min or more (rear defroster switch stuck).

Possible Causes

•  Climate control unit connector or terminals malfunction
•  Rear window defroster switch malfunction
•  BCM connector or terminals malfunction
•  Short to ground in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Vehicles with full-auto air conditioner
•  Climate control unit terminal V and BCM terminal 6D
―  Vehicles with manual air conditioner
•  Climate control unit terminal I and BCM terminal 6D
•  Climate control unit malfunction
•  BCM malfunction

VERIFY BCM DTCs
•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 7.

INSPECT CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT CONNECTOR AND TERMINALS
•  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Disconnect the climate control unit connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR AND TERMINALS
•  Disconnect the BCM connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Verify that the climate control unit and BCM connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminal (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
―  Vehicles with full-auto air conditioner
•  Climate control unit terminal V
―  Vehicles with manual air conditioner
•  Climate control unit terminal I
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible short to ground, then go to Step 6.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Measure the voltage at the following terminal (wiring harness-side):
―  Vehicles with full-auto air conditioner
•  Climate control unit terminal V
―  Vehicles with manual air conditioner
•  Climate control unit terminal I
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the climate control unit, then go to the next step.
6
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the BCM.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
7
VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCs ARE PRESENT
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
