Description

•  Windshield wiper switch circuit malfunction

Detection Condition

•  Open circuit in windshield wiper switch INT/AUTO circuit.

Possible Causes

•  Wiper and washer switch connector or terminals malfunction
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between the following:
―  Wiper and washer switch left side
•  Wiper and washer switch terminal C―Body ground
―  Wiper and washer switch right side
•  Wiper and washer switch terminal K―Body ground
•  Windshield wiper switch malfunction
•  BCM connector or terminals malfunction
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:
―  Wiper and washer switch left side
•  Wiper and washer switch terminal E―BCM terminal 6S
―  Wiper and washer switch right side
•  Wiper and washer switch terminal I―BCM terminal 6S
•  BCM malfunction

VERIFY BCM DTCs
•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Turn the windshield wiper switch INT/AUTO.
•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 8.

INSPECT WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONNECTOR AND TERMINALS
•  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Disconnect the wiper and washer switch connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Verify that the wiper and washer switch connector is disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminal (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
―  Wiper and washer switch left side
•  Wiper and washer switch terminal C
―  Wiper and washer switch right side
•  Wiper and washer switch terminal K
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible open circuit, then go to Step 7.

INSPECT WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH
•  Inspect the windshield wiper switch.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Replace the wiper and washer switch, then go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT BCM CONNECTOR AND TERMINALS
•  Disconnect the BCM connector.
•  Inspect the connector and terminals (corrosion, damage, pin disconnection).
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the connector or terminals, then go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Verify that the wiper and washer switch and BCM connectors are disconnected.
•  Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side):
―  Wiper and washer switch left side
•  Wiper and washer switch terminal E―BCM terminal 6S
―  Wiper and washer switch right side
•  Wiper and washer switch terminal I―BCM terminal 6S
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for a possible open circuit, then go to the next step.
7
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Reconnect the negative battery cable.
•  Clear the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Turn the windshield wiper switch INT/AUTO.
•  Perform the BCM DTC inspection using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the BCM.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCs ARE PRESENT
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
