Action

1
Noise occurs when engine is started immediately after oil replacement
Oil passing through oil passage
•  Maintain the engine speed at approx. 2,000 - 3,000 rpm for approx. 2 s - 10 min* to check if the noise disappears.
―  If the noise disappears, the HLA is normal.
―  If the noise does not disappear, go to Item 5.
2
Noise occurs at moment vehicle is started after left undriven for 1 day
3
Noise occurs immediately after engine is started after cranking for 3 s or more with starter
Oil passing through HLA
4
Noise occurs immediately after engine is started after replacing HLA with new one
5
Noise continues for 10 min or more.
Low hydraulic pressure
•  Inspect the oil pressure. (See OIL PRESSURE INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
―  If it is standard or less, inspect each engine part.
HLA malfunction
•  Inspect the HLA. (See HLA Inspection)
6
Noise occurs during idling after high-speed driving
Inappropriate engine oil amount
•  Inspect the engine oil amount. (See ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
Engine oil deterioration
•  Replace the engine oil. (See ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

*  :Time required for the engine oil to spread through the HLA. This value range includes tolerance in connection with the ambient temperature and the oil being used.

HLA Inspection

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(E)].)

2.  Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

3.  Remove the cylinder head cover. (See CYLINDER HEAD COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

4.  Press the rocker arm down and verify that the HLA does not go down.

•  If the HLA goes down, replace it. (See HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER (HLA) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
