Oil and chemical type

Warning

•  A hot engine can cause severe burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool before replacing the oil filter.

•  A vehicle that is lifted but not securely supported on safety stands is dangerous. It can slip or fall, causing death or serious injury. Never work around or under a lifted vehicle if it is not securely supported on safety stands.

•  Continuous exposure to USED engine oil has caused skin cancer in laboratory mice. Protect your skin by washing with soap and water immediately after working with engine oil.

Caution

•  If engine oil is spilled on the exhaust system, wipe it off completely. If you fail to wipe the spilled engine oil, it will produce fumes because of the heat.

Note

•  The service hole cover (installed to front under cover No.2) shape differs depending on the period of manufacture and the servicing procedure differs.Therefore, verify the service hole cover (installed to front under cover No.2) shape in advance.

Oil Filter Replacement (Service hole cover type A)

1.  Remove the front under cover No.2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Remove the oil filter using a cup-type oil filter wrench (commercially available: nominal diameter: 67 mm {2.6 in}, 14 sided).

3.  Clean the oil filter installation surface of the oil filter body using a clean cloth.

4.  Apply engine oil to the oil filter O-ring.

5.  Tighten the oil filter using a cup-type oil filter wrench and according to the instruction on the package or side of the oil filter.

6.  Start the engine and verify that there is no oil leakage.

•  If there is oil leakage, repair or replace the applicable part.

7.  Inspect the engine oil amount. (See ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

8.  Install the front under cover No.2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Oil Filter Replacement (Service hole cover type B)

1.  Remove the service hole cover (installed to front under cover No.2).

2.  Remove the oil filter using a cup-type oil filter wrench (commercially available: nominal diameter: 67 mm {2.6 in}, 14 sided).

3.  Clean the oil filter installation surface of the oil filter body using a clean cloth.

4.  Apply engine oil to the oil filter O-ring.

5.  Tighten the oil filter using a cup-type oil filter wrench and according to the instruction on the package or side of the oil filter.

6.  Start the engine and verify that there is no oil leakage.

•  If there is oil leakage, repair or replace the applicable part.

7.  Inspect the engine oil amount. (See ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

8.  Install the service hole cover.

Oil Filter Body (With Oil Cooler) Removal/Installation

1.  Remove the front under cover No.2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Remove the oil cooler. (See OIL COOLER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

3.  Remove the front drive shaft (RH). (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

4.  Remove the bolts shown in the figure and remove bracket No.1. (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

5.  Remove the oil filter. (See Oil Filter Replacement (Service hole cover type A).)

6.  Remove the bolts shown in the figure and remove the oil filter body.

7.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

Oil Filter Body (Without Oil Cooler) Removal/Installation

1.  Remove the front under cover No.2. (See FRONT UNDER COVER No.2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Drain the engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)

3.  Remove the front drive shaft (RH). (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

4.  Remove the bolts shown in the figure and remove bracket No.1. (See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

5.  Disconnect the water hoses shown in the figure.

6.  Remove the oil filter. (See Oil Filter Replacement (Service hole cover type A))

7.  Remove the bolts shown in the figure and remove the oil filter body.

8.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

9.  Add engine coolant. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [SKYACTIV-X 2.0].)
