INITIAL LEARNING [ET6A-EL, ET6AX-EL]

id0517n3119100

Warning
•  When performing the initial learning, apply the parking brake securely and block the front and rear wheels using wheel blocks so that the vehicle does not move. Otherwise, the vehicle may move which could lead to an accident because the gears are forcibly changed with the engine running and the shift lever in the drive position while in the initial learning.
•  Verify the road safety and drive the vehicle before performing the initial learning. (SKYACTIV-D 1.8)
Note
•  While the initial learning is being performed, the following phenomena may occur.
―  Shift shock occurs intermittently.
―  Indications such as selector lever positions differ from those displayed normally.
•  The automatic transaxle initial learning can be performed using the M-MDS.

Introduction

•  If the initial learning is not completed, perform the initial learning if any of the following parts is replaced. Otherwise, engine racing may occur or shift shock may increase.
―  Control valve body
―  Oil pressure switch
―  Clutch (low clutch, high clutch, R-3-5 brake, 2-6 brake, and low and reverse brake)
―  Automatic Transaxle

Initial Learning Procedure

Preparation before servicing

1.  Verify initial learning implementation necessity for replacement parts.

Replacement part

Initial learning implementation necessity

Control valve body replacement
Necessary
Oil pressure switch replacement
Necessary
Clutches*1
Necessary
Automatic transaxle replacement
Necessary
ON/OFF solenoid replacement
Unnecessary
Coupler component replacement
Unnecessary

*1  :Low clutch, high clutch, R-3-5 brake, 2-6 brake, and low and reverse brake

2.  Apply/ the parking brake firmly, and set the wheel blocks for both the front and rear wheels.

3.  Inspect the ATF level. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID (ATF) INSPECTION [ET6A-EL, ET6AX-EL].)

Initial learning procedure

1.  Connect the M-MDS.

2.  Perform the automatic transaxle initial learning.

3.  Using the M-MDS, verify that DTC P06B8:00 has not been stored. (See DTC INSPECTION)

•  If DTC P06B8:00 is displayed, switch the ignition off and repeat the procedure from Step 1.
•  If any other DTCs are displayed, repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC TABLE [TCM (ET6A-EL, ET6AX-EL) (E)].)

Drive Learning

Preparation before servicing

1.  Start the engine and wait for 30 s or more.

2.  Shift the selector lever to the D position.

3.  Verify the shift shock when shift up is operated from 2nd to 3rd gear.

•  If the shift shock is the same on a model of the same type, end the initial learning.
•  If the shift shock is more than on a model of the same type, perform the drive learning.

Drive learning procedure

1.  Drive the vehicle under the following condition and operate shift up from 2nd to 3rd gear 4 times.

•  Engine warmed up completely
•  ATF temperature: 60—110 °C {140—230 °F}
•  Accelerator pedal opening angle: Middle opening angle*1 or more
*1  :Middle opening angle indicates 40—60 %.

2.  Verify the shift shock when shift up is operated from 2nd to 3rd gear.

•  If the shift shock is the same on a model of the same type, end the drive learning.
•  If the shift shock is more than on a model of the same type, perform the drive learning again.
―  If the shift shock is more than on a model of the same type even if drive learning is repeated, repair the malfunctioning location following the applicable symptom troubleshooting procedure. (See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING ITEM TABLE [ET6A-EL, ET6AX-EL].)
