Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
VERIFY DTCs
•  Perform the DTC inspection.
•  Is a DTC displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY HOW CUSTOMER DRIVES VEHICLE
•  Verify if any of the following conditions applies to how the customer drives the vehicle.
―  Vehicle is driven at engine speed of 3,000 rpm or more
―  Driver drives vehicle depressing accelerator pedal slightly
•  Do any of the above conditions apply to how the customer drives the vehicle?
Yes
Explain to the customer that the vehicle is normal.
(No motor assist because motor assist operation conditions are not met.)
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY M Hybrid BATTERY CONDITION
•  Display the following PIDs using the M-MDS.
Mazda M Hybrid battery:
―  HV_EV_BATT_SOC
―  BATT_TEMP_1
Integrated starter generator (ISG):
―  MOSFET_TEMP
•  Do any of the following PIDs apply?
―  HV_EV_BATT_SOC value: Less than 50 %
―  BATT_TEMP_1 value: Not within range of -20 °C {-4 °F}—60 °C {140 °F}
―  MOSFET_TEMP value: 100 °C {212 °F} or more
Yes
HV_EV_BATT_SOC value is less than 50 %
•  Start the engine and maintain engine idling until the HV_EV_BATT_SOC value is 50 % or more.
•  Verify that the repairs have been completed.
BATT_TEMP_1 value is not within range of -20 °C {-4 °F}—60 °C {140 °F}
•  Wait until the BATT_TEMP_1 is not within the range of the -20 °C {-4 °F}—60 °C {140 °F}.
•  If the BATT_TEMP_1 value does not come within the range, verify if the floor undercover No.1 (RH) duct is clogged and repair the malfunctioning location if there is a malfunction.
•  Verify that the repairs have been completed.
MOSFET_TEMP value is 100 °C {212 °F} or more
•  Wait until the MOSFET_TEMP value is less than 100 °C {212 °F}.
•  Verify that the repairs have been completed.
No
Go to the next step.
4
VERIFY INTEGRATED STARTER GENERATOR (ISG) TORQUE CONDITION
•  Display the following PIDs using the M-MDS.
Integrated starter generator (ISG):
―  TRQ_REQ
―  TRQ_EST
•  Drive the vehicle.
•  Is “-” displayed for either TRQ_REQ or TRQ_EST value?
Yes
“-” is displayed for TRQ_REQ value (requested torque from PCM not output)
“+” is displayed for the TRQ_REQ value and “-” is displayed for the TRQ_EST value (requested torque from PCM output, but integrated starter generator (ISG) does not respond)
No
Go to the next step.
5
VERIFY CENTER DISPLAY INDICATION
•  Display the following PIDs using the M-MDS.
Integrated starter generator (ISG):
―  TRQ_EST
Note
•  If the generated torque is 1.5 N·m {15 kgf·cm, 13in·lbf} or less, the energy flow is not displayed on the center display.
•  Drive the vehicle.
•  When the PID TRQ_EST is 1.5 N·m {15 kgf·cm, 13 in·lbf} or more, is the energy flow displayed on the center display?
Yes
Explain to the customer that the vehicle is normal.
(Motor assist may be restricted for the purpose of system protection due to charge and temperature conditions of M Hybrid battery.)
No
Replace the center display.
Repair completion verification
VERIFY THAT VEHICLE IS REPAIRED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Complete the symptom troubleshooting.
(Explain contents of repair to customer.)
No
Refer to the CAN (controller area network) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction has not been resolved, replace the center display.
