Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1
INSPECT PAD SWITCH
Warning
•  Handling the air bag system components improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag modules and pre-tensioner seat belts, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings and cautions before handling the air bag system components.
•  Switch the Ignition to off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.
•  Inspect the PAD switch. (See PASSENGER AIR BAG DEACTIVATION (PAD) SWITCH INSPECTION.)
•  Is the PAD switch normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the PAD switch.
2
INSPECT SAS CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR
•  Remove the console. (See CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
•  Disconnect all SAS control module connector. (See SAS CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
•  Is there any malfunction of the SAS control module connector?
Yes
Repair the SAS control moudle wiring harness.
After replacement, reperform the DTC inspection and verify that no DTCs are displayed.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN PAD SWITCH AND SAS CONTROL MODULE
•  Inspect the wiring harness between SAS control module connector terminal 1C and PAD switch connector terminal D, SAS control module connector terminal 1H and PAD switch connector terminal C for the following:
―  Short to ground
―  Open circuit
―  Short circuit between terminals
Note
•  Inspect for continuity while shaking the wiring harness between the SAS control module and PAD switch.
•  Is the wiring harness normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the wiring harness between the PAD switch and SAS control module.
4
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN PAD SWITCH AND BODY GROUND
•  Inspect the wiring harness between PAD switch connector terminal E and body ground.
Note
•  Inspect for continuity while shaking the wiring harness between the PAD switch and body ground.
•  Is the wiring harness normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the wiring harness between the PAD switch and body ground.
5
PERFORM SAS CONTROL MODULE DTC INSPECTION
•  Reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Connect the negative battery cable.
•  Switch the ignition to ON.
•  Clear the DTC for the SAS control module using the M-MDS. (See CLEARING DTC [TYPE B].)
•  Perform the DTC inspection for the SAS control module using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [TYPE B].)
•  Are the same DTCs present?
Yes
Replace the SAS control module.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
