WHEEL HUB COMPONENT INSPECTION

Wheel Bearing Excessive Play Inspection

1.  Perform the following procedure for vehicles with the electric parking brake.

(1)  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
(2)  Release the electric parking brake.
(3)  Switch the ignition off.
(4)  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-G 1.5, SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5].) (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-D 1.5].) (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

2.  Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Disconnect the electric parking brake motor gear unit connector. (With electric parking brake) (See ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE MOTOR GEAR UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Remove the brake caliper component and disc plate. (See WHEEL HUB COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.  Install the magnetic base and dial gauge as shown in the figure and measure the wheel bearing axial excessive play.

Rear wheel bearing maximum play
0.05 mm {0.002 in}
•  If it exceeds the maximum specification, replace the wheel hub component. (See WHEEL HUB COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
