DESCRIPTION

•  M position indicator light in instrument cluster does not illuminate in M position or M position indicator light in instrument cluster in D position with the ignition at ON.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

•  M position switch (built-in selector lever component), instrument cluster, or related wiring harness malfunction

Note

•  Before following troubleshooting steps, make sure that Automatic Transaxle On-Board Diagnostic and Automatic Transaxle Basic Inspection are conducted. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION [PCM (FN4A-EL)].) (See BASIC INSPECTION [FN4A-EL].)

Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	Inspect the AT_MAN_M_SW PID value using the M-MDS. (See PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].) Is the PID value normal?	Yes	Go to Step 3.
1		No	Go to the next step.
2	Inspect the M position switch. (See M POSITION SWITCH INSPECTION [FN4A-EL].) Is the M position switch normal?	Yes	Inspect the wiring harness between instrument cluster terminal H and selector lever component terminal E. Repair or replace any malfunctioning parts according to the inspection results.
2		No	Replace the selector lever component. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
3	Retrieve the instrument cluster DTC using the M-MDS. (See DTC INSPECTION [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].) Are any DTCs present?	Yes	Go to the applicable DTC inspection. (See DTC TABLE [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].)
3		No	Verify the M position indicator light using the M-MDS simulation function WL+IL. (See ACTIVE COMMAND MODES INSPECTION [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER].) Replace the instrument cluster, if necessary. (See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4	• Verify the test results. ― If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. ― If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis. • If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed. • If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the PCM. (See PCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR 1.6].)
