TIE-ROD END INSPECTION

1.  Remove the steering gear and linkage. (See STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Remove the tie-rod end. (See STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE DISASSEMBLY.)

3.  Inspect the tie-rod end for damage and the boot for cracks.

•  If there is any malfunction, replace the tie-rod end. (See STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE ASSEMBLY.)

4.  Inspect for excessive play.

•  If there is any malfunction, replace the tie-rod end. (See STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE ASSEMBLY.)

5.  Rotate the tie-rod end 5 times.

6.  Install two nuts to the ball joint and measure the tie-rod end rotational torque using a torque wrench.

0.6—3.0 N·m {6.2—30 kgf·cm, 5.4—26 in·lbf}
•  If not within the specification, replace the tie-rod end. (See STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE ASSEMBLY.)
