DTC P244D:00

Exhaust temperature too high for diesel particulate filter regeneration

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors the exhaust gas temperature during diesel particulate filter regeneration using the exhaust gas temperature sensor. If the difference in temperatures between the exhaust gas temperature sensors No.1 and No.2 is 1,000 °C {1,800 °F} during diesel particulate filter regeneration, the PCM determines that the exhaust gas temperature is high.
Note
•  If the detection condition continues, the PCM performs the following controls to prevent a vehicle fire.
―  If continues for 40 s, forces the engine to misfire.
―  If continues for 60 s, forces the engine to stop.
•  When DTC P244D:00 is set, the PCM inhibits engine starting.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Wrong fuel (such as petrol or ethanol)
•  Engine oil deterioration
•  Excessive accumulation of soot in diesel particulate filter
•  Catalyst exhaust gas temperature sensor No.1 malfunction
•  Catalyst exhaust gas temperature sensor No.2 malfunction
•  Fuel injector correction factors improperly
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
•  Has the FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record the FREEZE FRAME DATA on the repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related service repair information availability.
•  Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE AND/OR DTC
•  Switch the ignition to ON (engine off).
•  Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure.
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
4
FUEL INSPECTION
•  Inspect the fuel.
•  Is it diesel fuel?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Drain the fuel from the tank and refill with diesel fuel.
Then go to step 9.
Note
•  When wrong fuel has been used, the diesel particulate filter should be checked for damage.
5
ENGINE OIL INSPECTION
•  Inspect the engine oil.
•  Is the engine oil normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the engine oil.
Then go to Step 9.
6
PERFORM DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION
•  Cool down the engine.
•  Perform the “EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE VALUE RESET“.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 10.
7
PERFORM FUEL INJECTOR CORRCTION FACTORS
•  Cool down the engine.
•  Perform the “EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE VALUE RESET“.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Perform the FUEL INJECTOR CORRCTION FACTORS.
•  Perform the DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER REGENERATION.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 10.
8
VISUALLY INSPECT DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER FOR RESTRICT AND DAMAGE
•  Cool down the engine.
•  Remove the catalytic converter.
•  Visually inspect the diesel particulate filter.
•  Is there any restrict or damage?
Yes
Replace the catalytic converter, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY THAT DTC P244D:00 TROUBLESHOOTING IS COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Perform the “EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE VALUE RESET“.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
10
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform the after repair procedure.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
