GLOW PLUG REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2]

Caution
•  Do not damage the heated section of the glow plug.
•  Do not reuse a glow plug that has been dropped over a height of 10 cm {3.9 in}, even when there are no scratches and resistance is normal (approx. 1.0 ohm [20°C {68°F}] (Reference value)).
•  Do not remove the glow plug unless you are replacing it.

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

2.  Remove the engine cover. (See ENGINE COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

3.  Remove the dipstick pipe. (See CYLINDER HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT [MZR-CD 2.2].)

4.  Remove the EGR cooler bypass valve control solenoid valve bracket No.1. (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZR-CD 2.2].)

5.  Remove in the order indicated in the table.

6.  Install in the reverse order of removal.


Glow Plug Removal Note

1.  When removing the glow plug, first loosen it at least one pitch using a tool, then loosen by hand.


Glow Plug Installation Note

1.  Tighten the glow plug at least one pitch by hand, and continue tightening with a tool.


Glow Plug Cleaning Before Installation Note

Caution
•  Carbon on the glow plug can damage the glow plug and engine. Remove carbon on the glow plug and fitting holes before installing the grow plug.

1.  Wrap tape on both 4.8—5.0 mm {0.189—0.196 in} and a 5.0—5.2 mm {0.196—0.204 in} drills, starting from the tip to a point 110—112 mm {4.34—4.40 in} from the tip.

2.  Push the 4.8—5.0 mm {0.189—0.196 in}drill until the section covered with tape is reached intake manifold.

3.  Turn the drill by hand to remove the carbon on the fitting holes.

4.  Repeat steps 2. and 3. for the 5.0—5.2 mm {0.196—0.204 in}drill.
