•  This DTC is recorded when the torque reduction control operates to prevent the differential journal from burning or seizure. The DTC does not indicate a malfunction.

DTC P1712:00

Prevents the differential journal from burning or seizure

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The TCM detects that difference between rotation speed of left and right driving wheels is 490 rpm or more when the following conditions are met.
―  Vehicle speed: 80 km/h {49 mph} or less
―  DSC OFF switch operation: On (DSC/TCS not operating)
―  Wheel speed signal: normal
Diagnostic support note
•  The MIL does not illuminate.
•  The AT warning light does not illuminate.
•  PENDING CODE is not available.
•  FREEZE FRAME DATA is not available.
•  The DTC is stored in the TCM memory.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  A difference occurs between the rotation speed of the left and right drive wheels under the following conditions:
―  Extracting vehicle from mud
―  Tires spin on slippery road

VERIFY MALFUNCTION SYMPTOM
•   Has the customer indicated that there is a lack of power?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 3.

VERIFY THAT VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN ON MUD OR SLIPPERY ROAD
•  Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
•  Verify the following monitoring value using the PID/data monitor function.
―  DGP_DIS_1 (traveled distance since last recording of DTC P1712:00)
•  Verify with the customer if the vehicle had been driven on a muddy or slippery road at the traveled distance indicated by the above monitoring value.
•  Has the customer driven on a muddy or slippery road?
Yes
Explain to the customer that the torque reduction control operates to prevent the differential journal from burning or seizure, however, this does not indicate a malfunction.
After explanation, go to the next step.
No
Verify that the cause of the lack of power is engine-related.
After inspection, go to the next step.

VERIFY THAT NO OTHER DTCs ARE PRESENT
•  Switch the ignition to off, and then switch the ignition to ON.
•  Verify the DTCs recorded in the TCM
•  Are any DTCs other than P1712:00 recorded?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection
No
Go to the next step.

CLEAR DTC P1712:00
•  Clear the DTC using the M-MDS.
•  Switch the ignition to off, and then switch the ignition to ON.
•  Verify the DTCs recorded in the TCM.
•  Has DTC P1712:00 been recorded?
Yes
Repeat Step 4.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
