DTC P0400:00

EGR valve problem

DETECTION CONDITION
•  The PCM monitors the EGR valve driving duty value after the engine starts. If the EGR valve driving duty value is more than 80 % for 70 s, the PCM determines that the EGR valve has a malfunction.
MONITORING CONDITIONS
―  Battery voltage: 8—20 V
Diagnostic support note
•  The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in two consecutive drive cycles or in one drive cycle while the DTC for the same malfunction has been stored in the PCM.
•  PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during first drive cycle.
•  FREEZE FRAME DATA (Mode 2)/Snapshot data is available.
•  The DTC is stored in the PCM memory.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  EGR valve malfunction
•  EGR valve position sensor malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

5
INSPECT EGR VALVE POSITION SENSOR
•  Access the EGRP PID with % and V mode.
•  Move the EGR valve using the EGRP PID % active command mode function.
•  Monitor the EGRP PID V mode.
•  Does the EGRP PID V mode moves according to the EGR valve actuate value?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Inspect the EGR valve position sensor.
•  If there is any malfunction:
―  Replace the EGR valve, then go to the next step.
•  If there is no malfunction:
―  Go to the next step.
