Cylinder No.4: Function malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION
•  With all of the following conditions met, the PCM determines that the control signal received from fuel injector No.4 is not operating normally 255 times consecutively.
―  Battery positive voltage: 10.5—18.0 V
―  diesel particulate filter regeneration control is not performed
―  ECT sensor No.1: 5 °C or more
―  Actual fuel temperature: 5 °C or more
―  Actual fuel pressure: 35—217 MPa
―  The following DTCs are not detected
•  Fuel pressure sensor: P10C4:00, P10C5:00, P10C6:00, P10CA:00, P10CB:00, P10CC:00, P10CD:00
•  Fuel temperature sensor: P10D2:00, P10D4:00, P10D5:00
•  Fuel injector: P0204:00, P2146:00, P2147:00, P2148:00, P1379:00, P2696:00, P268D:00, P268F:00
•  LIN communication system: U1201:00, U1202:00, U1203:00, U1204:00
•  ECT sensor: P0118:00, P0117:00
•  Malfunction in PCM: P0606:00, P062B:00
Diagnostic support note
•  This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
•  The check engine light illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
•  FREEZE FRAME DATA/Snapshot data is available.
•  DTC is stored in the PCM memory.
FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION
•  Limits engine torque.
•  Inhibits the automatic diesel particulate filter regeneration control.
•  Inhibits the manual diesel particulate filter regeneration control.
•  Inhibits the EGR control.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Fuel injector No.4 connector or terminal malfunction
•  PCM connector or terminal malfunction
•  Fuel injector No.4 malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

RECORD VEHICLE STATUS WHEN DTC WAS DETECTED TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
•  Record the freeze frame data/snap shot data.
Go to the next step.

VERIFY OTHER RELATED DTCs
•  Switch the ignition OFF, and then switch it ON (engine off).
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has any DTC other than P1044:00 been stored?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR NO.4 CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Switch the ignition OFF.
•  Disconnect the fuel injector No.4 connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition, and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 6.
4
INSPECT PCM CONNECTOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the PCM connector.
•  Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition, and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
•  Is the connector normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the connector, then go to Step 6.

INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR NO.4
•  Inspect fuel injector No.4.
•  Is fuel injector No.4 normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace fuel injector No.4, then go to the next step.
6
VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Reconnect all the disconnected connectors.
•  Refer to the [MEMORY CLEARING PROCEDURE] and clear the DTC.
•  Start the engine and warm it up.
•  Stop all electrical loads. (Such as A/C, headlights, blower fan, rear window defroster)
•  Drive the vehicle on flat roads under the following conditions 4 times repeatedly.
Warning
•  Observe legal speed limits when driving the vehicle and perform the procedure in a location where safety can be assured.
1.  Accelerate to 15 km/h and decelerate to 0 km/h.
2.  Wait for 20 s while idling.
3.  Accelerate to 30 km/h, and decelerate to 0 km/h after driving the vehicle while maintaining the speed for 20 s.
4.  Wait for 20 s while idling.
5.  Accelerate to 50 km/h, and decelerate to 0 km/h after driving the vehicle while maintaining the speed for 20 s.
6.  Wait for 20 s while idling.
•  Accelerate to 70 km/h and drive the vehicle while maintaining the speed for 60 s.
•  Decelerate to 50 km/h and drive the vehicle while maintaining the speed for 60 s.
•  Accelerate to 70 km/h and drive the vehicle while maintaining the speed for 60 s.
•  Accelerate to 100 km/h and drive the vehicle while maintaining the speed for 30 s.
•  Accelerate to 120 km/h and decelerate to 0 km/h.
•  Stop the engine.
•  Display the DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Has DTC P1044:00 been recorded?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY OTHER DTCs
•  Has any other DTC or pending code been stored?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
