CRASH ZONE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]

Warning

•  Handling the crash zone sensor improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the crash zone sensor. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) Note

•  The SRS air bag system can be identified by whether or not the seat track position sensor is present.

―  Standard deployment control system: Without seat track position sensor

―  Two-step deployment control system: With seat track position sensor

1.  Switch the ignition off.

2.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

3.  Remove the front bumper. (See FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Remove the front combination light. (See FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5.  Remove the bolt.

6.  Disconnect the connector. (See Connector Disconnect Note.)

7.  Remove the crash zone sensor.

8.  Remove the bracket.

9.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

10.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

11.  Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.

•  If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE (TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM)].)

Connector Disconnect Note

1.  Press the area (1) indicated by the arrow and slide it as shown in the figure (2).

2.  Press the area (3) indicated by the arrow and disconnect the connector (4).
