•  Short to GND in wiring between parking brake switch and BCM
•  Short to GND in wiring between brake fluid level sensor and BCM

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL
•  Is the brake fluid level normal?
Yes
Go to Step 3.
No
Go to the next step.
2
INSPECT BRAKE LINE FOR LEAKAGE
•  Is the brake fluid leaked?
Yes
Replace the leakage part.
Refill the brake fluid specified level.
No
Refill the brake fluid specified level.
3
INSPECT WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT RELATED SWITCHES OR ELSEWHERE
•  Inspect following parts for continuity.
―  Parking brake switch
―  Brake fluid level sensor
•  Is the continuity condition normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the malfunctioning part.
*4
INSPECT FOR SHORT TO GND CIRCUIT IN WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN BCM AND BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT RELATED SWITCHES
•  Inspect for short to GND circuit wiring for following:
―  Between parking switch and BCM terminal 8A
―  Between brake fluid level sensor and BCM terminal 1Q
•  Is the short to GND circuit detected?
Yes
Repair or replace malfunctioning part for short to GND circuit.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OR BCM
•  Release the parking brake.
•  Turn off all warning lights and indicator light using M-MDS instrument cluster active command modes PID WL+IL.
•  Does the brake system warning light stay on?
Yes
Replace the instrument cluster.
No
Replace the BCM.

•  When performing an asterisked (*) troubleshooting inspection, shake the wiring harness and connectors while doing the inspection to discover whether poor contact points are the cause of any intermittent malfunctions. If there is a problem, check to make sure connectors, terminals and wiring harness are connected correctly and undamaged.
