Gear position indicator light does not illuminate in M range
DESCRIPTION
•  Gear position indicator light in instrument cluster does not illuminate in M range with the ignition at ON.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  M range switch, TR switch, instrument cluster, or related wiring harness malfunction
Note
•  Before following the troubleshooting steps, make sure that the Automatic Transaxle ON-Board Diagnostic and Automatic Transaxle Basic Inspection are conducted. (See BASIC INSPECTION [FS5A-EL].)

Diagnostic procedure

With the ignition at ON,
When selector lever is moved, does selector illumination indicate synchronized position to lever location?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Check value at the following.
TCM terminal voltage:
•  2H (TR switch)
Repair or replace any defective parts.

Inspect the voltage at TCM terminal 2B (M range switch).
Is voltage normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace any defective part.

Inspect the instrument cluster.
Is instrument cluster normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace any defective part.

Disconnect the TCM and instrument cluster connector.
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Check continuity between the following circuits:
―  TCM terminal 2W and body GND
―  TCM terminal 2X and body GND
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2W and body GND
―  Instrument cluster terminal 2X and body GND
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace harness for short to GND, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

Disconnect the TCM and instrument cluster connector.
•  Switch the ignition to off.
•  Check continuity between the following circuits:
―  TCM terminal 2W and instrument cluster terminal 2X
―  TCM terminal 2X and instrument cluster terminal 2W
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace harness for open circuit, then go to the next step.

•  Verify the test results.
―  If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
―  If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis.
•  If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the TCM.
