No.3 AFS OPERATES (BENDING LIGHT ILLUMINATES) WHEN AFS OFF SWITCH IS TURNED TO OFF [AFS (ADAPTABLE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM)]

id0903c6912300

3

AFS operates (light-bending illuminates) when AFS OFF switch is turned off.

DESCRIPTION
•  AFS operates (light-bending illuminates) while the AFS OFF switch is off (operation stopped)
•  AFS operates (light-bending illuminates) while the headlights one in a position other than low.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Headlight low beam signal
―  Short to ground in wiring harness between light switch and AFS control module.
•  AFS control module does not receive AFS OFF signal
―  AFS OFF switch malfunction (stuck off)
―  Open circuit in wiring harness between AFS OFF switch terminal H (L.H.D.)/B (R.H.D.) and AFS control module terminal P
―  Open circuit in wiring harness between AFS OFF switch terminal K and ground
•  AFS control module malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
INSPECT HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Turn the light switch to OFF.
•  Disconnect the AFS control module connector.
•  Remove the headlight low relay from main fuse box.
•  Verify continuity between AFS control module wiring harness-side connector terminal F and body ground.
•  Is there any continuity?
Yes
Repair short to ground.
No
Go to the next step.
2
INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OR ELSEWHERE
•  Connect the M-MDS to DLC-2.
•  Select the active command "WL+IL" using the M-MDS and turn on the warning light in the instrument cluster.
•  Does the AFS OFF light illuminate and turn off according to the simulation function?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the instrument cluster.
3
INSPECT IF MALFUNCTION IS IN AFS CONTROL MODULE OR ELSEWHERE
•   Switch the ignition to off.
•   Disconnect the AFS control module connector.
•   Turn the AFS OFF switch on.
•   Verify the continuity between the AFS control module wiring harness-side connector terminal P and body ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Inspect the pin connection of AFS control module terminal P.
If a poor connection is detected, repair or replace the suspect part.
If the pin connection is normal, replace the AFS control module.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT AFS OFF SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•   Switch the ignition to off.
•   Disconnect the AFS OFF switch connector and AFS control module connector.
•   Verify the continuity between AFS OFF switch terminal H (L.H.D.)/B (R.H.D.) and AFS control module terminal P.
•   Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part for an open circuit.
5
INSPECT AFS OFF SWITCH
•  Inspect the AFS OFF switch.
•  Is the AFS OFF switch normal?
Yes
Inspect for the following and repair or replace the malfunctioning part.
•  Wiring harness between the AFS OFF switch terminal K and body ground
•  Loose or poor connection in the ground point
No
Replace the AFS OFF switch.
