INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC
Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Read and record DTCs.
Is the instrument cluster DTC displayed?

Yes
|
If DTC U1041 is displayed, refer to powertrain control/emission diagnosis.
If any DTCs except DTC U1041 are displayed, refer to “DTC TABLE [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER]”.

No
|
Go to the next step.

SPEEDOMETER SIMULATION USING M-MDS
Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Select the SPEEDSG in the instrument cluster simulation items.
Does the speedometer operate normally?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|
No
|
Go to Step 4.

VSS PID IN PCM
Monitor the PID OSS_SRC when vehicle is in motion.
Does the PID OSS_SRC vary according to the vehicle speed?

Yes
|
Go to the next step.
|
No
|
Inspect the output shaft speed sensor.
|

INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
Inspection:
• Corrosion
• Terminal separation
Connect the instrument cluster connector and verify that its position is correct.
Operate the system and inspect for any malfunction.
Is any malfunction still present?

Yes
|
Replace the instrument cluster. Inspect the system for normal operation.

No
|
The system operates normally. The malfunction may result from loose connectors or corrosion. Clear the DTC. Repeat the self-test.
