INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC

Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Read and record DTCs.

Is the instrument cluster DTC displayed?

Yes

If DTC U1041 is displayed, refer to powertrain control/emission diagnosis.

If any DTCs except DTC U1041 are displayed, refer to “DTC TABLE [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER]”.

No

Go to the next step.

SPEEDOMETER SIMULATION USING M-MDS

Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Select the SPEEDSG in the instrument cluster simulation items.

Does the speedometer operate normally?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Go to Step 4.

VSS PID IN PCM

Monitor the PID OSS_SRC when vehicle is in motion.

Does the PID OSS_SRC vary according to the vehicle speed?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Inspect the output shaft speed sensor.

(See OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED (OSS) SENSOR INSPECTION[LA4AX-EL (CD4E)])

INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION

Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.

Inspection:

• Corrosion

• Terminal separation

Connect the instrument cluster connector and verify that its position is correct.

Operate the system and inspect for any malfunction.

Is any malfunction still present?

Yes

Replace the instrument cluster. Inspect the system for normal operation.

No

The system operates normally. The malfunction may result from loose connectors or corrosion. Clear the DTC. Repeat the self-test.

1	INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Read and record DTCs. Is the instrument cluster DTC displayed?	Yes	If DTC U1041 is displayed, refer to powertrain control/emission diagnosis. If any DTCs except DTC U1041 are displayed, refer to “DTC TABLE [INSTRUMENT CLUSTER]”.
1		No	Go to the next step.
2	SPEEDOMETER SIMULATION USING M-MDS Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Select the SPEEDSG in the instrument cluster simulation items. Does the speedometer operate normally?	Yes	Go to the next step.
2		No	Go to Step 4.
3	VSS PID IN PCM Monitor the PID OSS_SRC when vehicle is in motion. Does the PID OSS_SRC vary according to the vehicle speed?	Yes	Go to the next step.
3		No	Inspect the output shaft speed sensor. (See OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED (OSS) SENSOR INSPECTION[LA4AX-EL (CD4E)])
4	INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
