CYLINDER HEAD (RH) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)]

Removal

1. Remove the coolant bypass tube.

2. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube.

3. Remove the six nuts from the RH exhaust manifold.

4. Remove the RH camshafts. (See CAMSHAFTS (RH) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

5. Remove the rocker arm.

Caution
• The rocker arm must be installed in its original position.

6. Remove the HLA.

Caution
• The HLA must be installed in its original position.

7. Remove the bolts in the sequence shown and remove the cylinder head.

• Discard the gasket and the bolts.
Note
• The cylinder head bolts must be replaced with new bolts. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.

Installation

1. Position the RH cylinder head, gasket and install the bolts in the sequence shown.

• Tighten the bolts in six stages.
• Stage 1: Tighten to 40 N·m {4.1 kgf·m, 30 ft·lbf}.
• Stage 2: Tighten bolts 90 degrees.
• Stage 3: Loosen one full turn.
• Stage 4: Tighten to 40 N·m {4.1 kgf·m, 30 ft·lbf}.
• Stage 5: Tighten 90 degrees.
• Stage 6: Tighten 90 degrees.

Caution
• Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the head gasket. Clean all sealing surfaces with Metal Surface Cleaner.
Note
• The cylinder head bolts must be replaced with new bolts. They are torque-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.

2. Install the HLA.

(1) Lubricate the HLA with engine oil.

3. Install the rocker arm.

• Lubricate the rocker arm with engine oil.

4. Install the RH camshafts. (See CAMSHAFTS (RH) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

5. Install the coolant bypass tube.

6. Install RH exhaust manifold nuts in the sequence shown.

7. Install the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube. (See EGR VALVE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)
