No.1 Additional Key Programming Procedure (Using Two Valid Keys)
-
Note
-
• This procedure is available only when there are two or more valid keys, and it is desired to program the keys. If there are not two valid keys, follow the procedure in "No.3 Key Replacement Procedure (Clear all programmed key ID numbers and program new keys)"
-
• For this procedure, PID/data monitor function of WDS or equivalent must be enabled to check "SPAREKEY" status. If this PID/data monitor function is not enabled, follow "No.4 Changing the Method for Programming Additional Keys" and enable the key programming procedure.
-
• If the programming procedure is successful, the new key(s) will start the vehicle and the THEFT indicator will illuminate for approx.3 seconds.
-
• If the programming procedure is not successful, the new key(s) will not start the vehicle and the THEFT indicator will flash. If the programming procedure was not successful leave the ignition switch in the ON position for at least 30 seconds, repeat the key programming procedure from Step 1. If the failure repeats, review DTCs and perform the on-board diagnostic system inspection as necessary.
-
• A maximum of eight ignition keys can be programmed to a immobilizer system equipped vehicle.
-
• If the steps are not carried out as described, the programming procedure will end.
1. Insert the first programmed ignition key into the ignition key cylinder and turn the ignition switch from the OFF to the ON position (maintain the ignition switch in the ON position for 3 seconds).
2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and remove the first key from the ignition key cylinder.
3. Within seconds of turning the ignition switch to the OFF position, insert the second programmed ignition key into the ignition key cylinder and turn the ignition switch from the OFF to the ON position (maintain the ignition switch in the ON position for 3 seconds).
4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and remove the second key from the ignition key cylinder.
5. Within 20 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the OFF position, insert the unprogrammed ignition key (new key) into the ignition key cylinder and turn the ignition switch from the OFF to the ON position (attempt to start vehicle).
6. If it is desired to program additional key(s), repeat the key programming procedure from the beginning.
No.2 Additional Key Programming Procedure (Using WDS or equivalent)
-
Note
-
• This procedure is used when a customer needs to have an additional key programmed into the vehicle without clearing programmed key ID numbers, but does not have two programmed keys available. This procedure is also useful when attempting to determine if an ignition key is defective, as a new key can be installed without clearing keys or without having two programmed keys available.
-
• If eight keys are already programmed, this procedure will not allow any further ignition keys to be programmed without clearing all programmed key ID numbers first. The number of keys programmed into the system can be determined using the PID/data monitor function N_KEYCODE.
1. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the ON position using the new, unprogrammed ignition key.
2. Select "BODY/SECURITY/PATS" from the WDS menu.
3. According to the instructions on the WDS or equivalent screen, perform the security access. (See No.5 Security Access.)
4. Select "Additional Ignition key Programming" from the WDS or equivalent screen menu and perform the tasks according to the WDS or equivalent screen.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and disconnect the WDS or equivalent.
6. Attempt to start the engine with the new ignition key. The vehicle engine should start and run normally.
No.3 Key Replacement Procedure (Clear all programmed key ID numbers and program new keys)
-
Note
-
• This procedure is used when a customer needs keys programmed into the system and does not have two programmed ignition keys available. This procedure is also useful when programmed ignition key(s) have been lost, or the ignition switch assembly or PCM has been replaced, and it is desired to erase key(s) from the memory.
-
• This procedure will erase all programmed ignition keys from the vehicle memory. The vehicle will not start until two keys have been reprogrammed to the vehicle.
1. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF to the ON position.
2. Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.
3. Select "BODY/SECURITY/PATS" from the WDS or equivalent screen menu.
4. Perform the security access according to the instructions on the WDS or equivalent screen. (See No.5 Security Access.)
5. Select "Ignition key ID number Erase" from the WDS or equivalent screen menu and perform the tasks according to the WDS or equivalent screen.
-
Note
-
• Do not select any additional commands from this menu.
6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and disconnect the WDS or equivalent.
7. Insert the first programmed key into the ignition key cylinder and turn the ignition switch to ON position for 3 seconds.
8. Insert the second programmed key into the ignition key cylinder and turn the ignition switch to the ON position for 3 seconds.
9. Remove the second programmed key from the ignition key cylinder.
10. The vehicle should now start with both ignition keys.
No.4 Changing the Method for Programming Additional Keys
-
Note
-
• This procedure is for changing the enable/disable setting of "No.1 Additional Key Programming Procedure (Using Two Valid Keys)".
-
• The default setting of a new vehicles or replacement PCM is "enable".
-
• By disabling procedure "No.1 Additional Key Programming Procedure (Using Two Valid Keys)", only the WDS or equivalent can be used to program additional keys, thereby preventing two valid keys from being used to create an unauthorized spare key. This function is for use rental car or other companies with vehicle fleets.
-
• The spare key programming method status can be viewed using the PID/data monitor function "SPAREKEY" of WDS or equivalent.
1. Insert a programmed ignition key into the ignition key cylinder and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.
3. Select "BODY/SECURITY/PATS" from the WDS or equivalent screen menu.
4. According to the instructions on the WDS or equivalent screen, perform the security access. (See No.5 Security Access.)
5. Select "CUSTOMER SPAREKEY PROGRAMMING ENABLE" or "CUSTOMER SPAREKEY PROGRAMMING DISABLE" from the WDS or equivalent screen menu.
No.5 Security Access
1. Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.
2. Select "BODY/SECURITY/PATS" from the WDS or equivalent screen menu.
3. Security access is started.
-
Note
-
• This procedure will take 10 minutes to carry out, during which the ignition switch must be in the ON position and the WDS or equivalent must be connected to the vehicle.
4. After the 10 minute security access procedure has been completed, a new menu will be displayed with command options. Select only those functions necessary before exiting out of this menu. Once exited out of this menu, the security access procedure must be repeated again to carry out additional commands.
