Adjust/save steering column, general
Various positions of the steering column can be adjusted and stored with the adjust/store steering column function.

The store/adjust steering column function is comprised of the following partial functions :
^ Adjust steering column function sequence
^ Save position of steering column function sequence
^ Call up saved steering column position function sequence

Adjust steering column function sequence
The operation of the steering column adjustment switch (S59) (without code (443) steering wheel heater) or the steering column adjustment switch up and down, fore and aft (S59/1s1) in the steering column adjustment/steering wheel heater switch (S59/1) (with code (443) steering wheel heater) is read in by the steering column tube module (N80) and from there transmitted to the central gateway control unit via the engine compartment CAN (N93).

The information is passed on by the central gateway control unit to the driver-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory (N32/1) via the interior CAN.

Depending on the request the driver-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory actuates the steering column fore and aft motor (M20/1) or the steering column up and down motor (M20/2) directly.

The fore/aft steering column motor or up/down steering column motor are actuated as long as the request exists or until an end stop is reached.

Save position of steering column function sequence
The current position of the steering column can be saved together with the position of the driver seat and the outside mirrors. The position is stored via the memory position switch 1,2,3 (S91s14) and the memory switch (S91s9) in the driver seat adjustment switch group with memory (S91). The corresponding positions are stored in the driver-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory. Up to three different data records can be stored.

There are two ways of saving positions:
- Memory switch is pressed, held and after t ≥ 200 ms the corresponding memory switches 1,2,3 pressed for t ≥ 40 ms.
- The memory switch is operated for t ≥ 40 ms and released again. The corresponding memory switches 1,2,3 must be pressed within t ≥ 0.2 s to t ≤ 3s.

The driver-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory stores the current position of the motors using the signals from their Hall sensors.

When saving the position the instrument cluster (A1) emits an acknowledgment tone.

Call up saved steering column position function sequence
By operating a corresponding memory switch 1,2,3 approaching the previously stored positions of the driver seat, the outside mirrors and steering column is requested.

In the process the corresponding switch memory 1,2,3 must be held pressed until the stored end position is reached. Releasing the memory switch causes the adjustment process to be terminated immediately.

The driver-side front seat adjustment control unit with memory reads in an operation of the corresponding memory switch 1,2,3 and actuates the steering column fore and aft motor or the steering column up and down motor directly.
