REF.NO. MBNA 82/10

TO: OUR MERCEDES-BENZ PASSENGER CAR DEALERS

DATE: March, 1983

SUBJECT:
BECKER GRAND PRIX ELECTRONIC RADIO
FACE PLATE REPLACEMENT

This is to advise you that the new version face plate used on radios as of model year 1983 is now available as a separate replacement part under part number 926 820 89 88.

The reasons for having the face plate available as a separate replacement part are:

- to make updating of older radios possible in case of customer requests

- to enable you to provide a replacement in case of physical damage inflicted on a face plate, but not related to material defects or workmanship.

NOTE:
Face plate replacements will not be accepted under warranty.

For procedures on the face plate replacement, please follow the instructions below.

Work Procedure for Face Plate Replacement

The replacement of the face plate is performed without removal of the radio from the vehicle. For this purpose, the MB Tool Number 126 589 03 33 is used.

1. Insert the hook through the right-hand side of the cassette door opening and pull, while applying slight pressure with the other hand against the right-hand side face plate edge so it does not fly out when it is unlatched.

2. When the face plate unlatches, carefully pull the right side out first and slide plate to the right. The face plate innerside has very delicate wiring and components, thus extreme care should be taken. Handling of the face plate should be by the front edge and the rim only.

3. Reinstall the new face plate by reversing the above procedure. First slide it in toward the left side, making sure that the guide pins are correctly located. Then apply pressure on the right-hand side edge (rim) until it latches (a click is heard).

4. Verify the proper installation and operation of the radio.
