Adjustment of parking brake

A. Readjustment up to 08/85





Note: Readjust parking brake when parking brake pedal can be depressed by more than 4 detents of a total of 12 without obtaining sufficient braking effect.

Caution! Do not attempt to readjust parking brake with adjustment screw (89) on intermediate lever. This serves only for compensating the length of the control cable.

- Screw out rear wheel lug bolt on left and right and turn wheel so that bolt hole is positioned toward front at an angle of approx. 45° upward or points exactly toward front on vehicles with anti-squat control.

- Insert adjustment screwdriver (size 4.5 mm) through bolt hole in wheel into adjusting wheel for adjustment device (105) and turn so that it is no longer possible to turn wheel. Then turn back adjustment wheel 2-3 teeth until the wheel can be turned with complete freedom.

Caution!
- Adjustment device for brake shoes. Left from bottom toward top, right from top toward bottom.
- Vehicles with anti-squat control left from rear toward front right from front toward rear.

- Press pedal for parking brake into 1st detent. The parking brake shoes should contact lightly in this position.

- Screw in lug bolts after adjusting parking brake and tighten to prescribed torque of 110 Nm.

B. Readjustment starting 09/85





Note: Readjust parking brake when parking brake pedal can be depressed by more than 4 detents of a total of 12 without obtaining sufficient braking effect.

- Loosen adjustment screw (89) completely. The expanding locks must not be under tension.

- Screw out rear wheel lug bolt on left and right and turn wheel so that bolt hole is positioned toward front at an angle of approx. 45° upward or points exactly toward front on vehicles with anti-squat control.

- Insert adjustment screwdriver (size 4.5 mm) through bolt hole in wheel into adjusting wheel for adjustment device (105) and turn so that it is no longer possible to turn wheel. Then turn back adjustment wheel 2-3 teeth until the wheel can be turned with complete freedom.

Caution!
- Adjustment device for brake shoes. Left from bottom toward top, right from top toward bottom.
- Vehicles with anti-squat control lefi from rear toward front right from front toward rear.

- Screw adjustment screw (89) in until brake cables no longer sag.

- Acuate parking brake several times with force of approx. 400 N.

- Screw adjustment screw (89) into adjustment bracket until medium force of approx. 120-150 N is required to depress parking brake pedal one tooth. Release parking brake and check whether wheels turn freely.

- Screw lug bolts in after adjusting parking brake and tighten to prescribed torque of 110 Nm.
