SUBJECT:
HOFMANN TWO-POST LIFT/MB LIFT ADAPTERS
(Reprint of Service Operations Bulletin No. 2 EP 1/0, Aug. 1980)

The most recent production version of the Hofmann two-post electric lift (Model 471) incorporates round lift pads (121 mm diameter) which are not to be used in conjunction with the Mercedes-Benz lift adapter special tooth specified below. Dealers who have purchased this lift or plan to purchase it in the near future must therefore use the alternate vehicle lift points (see reverse side) which permit lifting of Mercedes-Benz vehicles without the use of the special Mercedes-Benz lift adapters.

The round lift pad replaced the earlier rectangular version lift pad beginning in early 1979. Its round pad configuration does not provide an adequate amount of contact surface for the lift adapter tools, a fact obvious to the alert service technician. Nonetheless, it is strongly recommended that this item be brought to the attention of your service staff in order that there may be a clear understanding.

NOTE:
Adequate safety precautions for lifting vehicles on automotive lifts of any make or model should always be taken. Always make certain that the correct vehicle/lift contact is made prior to lifting the vehicle to full working height. If the vehicle is lowered, check the contact points again prior to raising the vehicle again.

ALWAYS EXERCISE CAUTION AND COMMON SENSE IN LIFTING ANY VEHICLE.

1. Outer support points (using lift adaptors) should not be used with Hofmann lifts having 121 mm diameter, circular lift pads.

2. Inner support points (front: inner longitudinal frame members; rear: support plates, rear axle support mounting) should he used (i.e. without lift adaptors) when using Hofmann lifts having 121 mm circular lift pads.

The following lift adaptor special tools should not be used with Hofmann two-post electric lifts equipped with circular lift pads (121 mm diameter):
