DATE: May 1985 (supersedes MBNA 72/5, Feb. 1985) REF. NO. MBNA 72/5a

SUBJECT: REAR WINDOW REGULATORS MODEL 201

Figure 1 - Previous Version (without metal reinforcement):

Figure 2 - Modified Version (with metal reinforcement):

Since the end of November 1984, modified rear window regulator assemblies have been installed in production. Earlier versions of the modified assembly could be identified by a yellow dot on the motor and by the "metal reinforced" plastic sliding jaw.. Now, the modified assemblies can only be identified by the "metal reinforced" (arrow) plastic sliding jaw (Figure 2).
All parts in MBNA stock are of the new production. Dealer stock should be returned to the respective PDC and only the new version assemblies should be installed.

In case of rear window regulator failure, the following corrective measures should be taken:

Broken Rubber Mounts

Replace all three mounts with the new version mount, Part No. 201 988 03 11, per S.I. MBNA 72/3. In isolated cases, if a new mount cannot be threaded into the motor housing, the entire regulator must be replaced.

Broken Plastic Slider - Cable Jammed in Spool

On vehicles produced before the end of November 1984, check the vehicle file if previous rear window regulator replacement took place. If so, only replace the defective part; if not, replace both rear window regulators.

Noisy Operation

Replace only the noisy regulator (not both sides as above).
