Measuring Oil Consumption
Special tools
Oil dipstick with millimeter division 115 589 15 21 00
Valve for interrupting oil return flow 110 589 00 91 00
from air-oil cooler
Telethermometer 124 589 07 21 00
NOTE: The oil consumption can be measured by means of oil dipstick with millimeter division and the respective diagram.
Since there are two oil dipsticks and different test sheets, the following items must be observed:
On this engine, the dipstick, part No.115 589 15 21 00 (red handle) may be used only.
Test sheet
German/English, print No. 800.99.402.00 B
French/Spanish, print No. 800.99.402.01 B
The consumption measuring sequence is described on front page of test sheet. Test Sheet For Oil Consumption Test
To prevent faulty measurements, check engine oil for thinning by fuel prior to measuring consumption.
To prevent return flow of oil from air-oil cooler while measuring. install check valve between air-oil cooler and upper oil hose.
If, owing to restricted space conditions, the check valve cannot be installed, mount check valve with pipe elbow and connecting line.
Bleed air-oil cooler prior to measuring consumption.
For this purpose, plug two transparent plastic hoses on bleed screws attached to check valve. Remove oil filler lock on cylinder head cover and insert the two hoses into the filler hole.
Attention! To prevent oil ejection, it is recommended to use an oil filler lock with two bores (outside diameter of hoses).
