Click Noise From Driveline Area When Shifting D To R

NOTE: This topic does not apply to 4MATIC transmission 722.342.

COMPLAINT DESCRIPTION:
Click noise heard from driveline area each time transmission is shifted (from Drive to Reverse or Reverse to Drive with stationary vehicle.

CAUSE:
Load reversal of output shaft splines on output flange.

REMEDY:





Install additional shim (65), part no. 116 272 00 76, under output flange.
Tightening torque, Output flange collar nut: 120 Nm
