Whining Noise From Transmission










CAUSE: Hardened stator (1) of front cover id moving outward, eliminating gear set play.

INSPECTION NOTE:
- A gap should not exist between stator shaft (1) and clutch K1 seal-ring carrier (2). ie. zero clearance (as depicted at arrow point in illustration inset).
- It a gap exists. the stator shaft is moving outward.
- Visible wear may be evident on axial bearing contact surface (a).

REMEDY:
- Replace front cover and clutch K1 axial bearing.
- Measure and correct transmission gear set end play.

POSSIBLE REPAIR ALTERNATIVE:
- Press-in stator shaft until all clearance is eliminated between stator shaft (1) and clutch K1 seal- ring carrier (2).
- From primary pump side of front cover, peen front cover to stator shaft in area of splines..
- Replace clutch K1 axial bearing.
- Measure arid correct transmission gear set end play.
