Coolant Gauge Rises Temporarily, Noise from Heat Exchanger

Coolant Temperature Indicator Rises Once to Approximately 120 °C After Cold Starting and Drops Again to Normal Temperature; While Doing So, Loud Noises (Gargling) Can Be Heard From the Heat Exchanger:

Cause/Remedy:

a) The coolant thermostat fails to open or jams

Renew coolant thermostat.

Install coolant thermostat with gasket so that the pin and the gasket are positioned exactly in the center of the control bore.

b) Owing to twisted installation position of the coolant thermostat, the pin is bent in the control bore and jams, or the holder of the pin contacts the guide groove of the inlet connection.

Cut off holder and pin at coolant thermostat.

c) The necessary control quantity is unable to flow through the control bore as this is partially closed by a casting skin or the coolant thermostat gasket.

Check control bore (dia. 4.3 mm) for free passage.

Drill 2 holes with 4 mm dia. into the coolant thermostat outer ring.
