IT CONCEPTS, INC. BORESCOPE AND FIBERSCOPE FUNCTIONALITY

IT Concepts, Inc. offers several MBNA approved borescope and fiberscope kits available through the Mercedes-Benz Standard Service Equipment Program (SSEP). Borescopes and fiberscopes can be valuable timesaving engine inspection and diagnostic tools. This bulletin outlines the functionality of the borescope and flexible fiberscope.

The rigid borescope is specifically designated for cylinder chamber evaluation by providing an image of the viewing area through a series of high quality lenses. It is ideal for straight-line access. A 90 degree mirror tube is used for side viewing. You can achieve a 360 degree view without rotating the entire scope by rotating the mirror tube with the ring at the top of the mirror tube. A 120 degree mirror tube can offer a variety of viewing angles, and can be ordered as an option.

The flexible articulated fiberscope allows you to inspect and maneuver inside areas of Mercedes-Benz engines (other than cylinder chambers)1) that might otherwise be impossible to view without disassembly or tear-down. The images of the viewing area are transmitted through a densely packed bundle of continuous glass fibers. The tip of the articulated fiberscope probe can be controlled via a lever on the eyepiece handle, and has a two-way 120 degree articulation ability. The flexible steel sheathing of the 26" long probe can be pre-shaped to achieve full viewing capabilities in restrictive areas.

All IT Concepts scopes can be used with the video kit, which provides high-resolution images on a monitor. The video kit recording feature can be a useful tool for documentation purposes.

1) Please note that MBNA recommends only the rigid borescope be used when evaluating cylinder walls or any fine detail within the cylinder chamber. Fiberscopes with an image quality equal to that of a rigid borescope are inordinately expensive.
