Reassembly Of Camshaft Timing Adjuster Using Shop Made Installation Tool

These Work Instructions describe the reassembly of the camshaft timing adjuster which requires the use of a shop-made special tool described in Special Tools.
Procedure
1. Disassemble and remove camshaft timing adjuster (refer to Engines 104 and 119 Job No. 05-217. Engine 120 refer to Engine 104, job no. 05-217).

2. Mount spiral cone spring (14a, Figure 1) and adjustment piston (14, Figure 1) onto flange (Figure 2).
Note:
Match position of large spline on adjustment piston to flange.
3. Install shop made special tool (5, Figure 1) behind holding nut (6, Figure 1) turning nut until tool (washer) is fully seated. Install nut with thick side positioned towards camshaft.
4. Install camshaft sprocket (13, Figure 1) over adjustment piston (14, Figure 1). Match position of splines.
5. Hold camshaft sprocket to flange and remove special tool (5, Figure 1).
6. Install cover (12, Figure 1) and nut (6, Figure 1) and torque to 65 Nm.

Note:
Mild steel or aluminum are suggested as materials for the special tool. A washer of similar dimensions may be substituted for the shop-made special tool.
