Removal and Installation of Timing Case Cover

Removing and installing timing case cover






Proceeding work

1. Remove front cover at top. Front Covers at Top, Removal and Installation

2. Support for air pump/generator removed. Refer to Powertrain Management - Emission Control Systems - Air Injection - Air Injection Pump - Service and Repair - Procedures

3. Tensioning device removed on model 202 with tensioning device (1st version). Service and Repair

4. Remove viscous fan clutch bearing bracket. Refer to Cooling System - Cooling Fan, Radiator - Fan Clutch - Service and Repair - Procedures Service and Repair

5. Remove belt pulley/vibration damper. Refer to Cylinder Block Assembly - Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley - Service and Repair- Procedures Service and Repair and Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories - Drive Belt - Service and Repair - Procedures Service and Repair

6. Mark the timing chain to camshaft sprockets with colored marking (arrow).
7. Unbolt bracket (101).
8. Unbolt timing case cover (96) at front and bottom.
9. Remove timing case cover (96).

NOTE: Do not damage oil pan gasket (arrows).

10. Do not lose roll pins (96a).
11. Clean sealing surfaces.
12. Coat sealing surfaces with sealant.

NOTE: Ensure that no sealant gets into the oil chain (96b) of the chain tensioner.

13. Examine radial shaft seal (8), replace if necessary.
14. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Tighten M8 bolts of timing case cover to 21 Nm.

NOTE:
- The timing case cover is fixed in position by two roll pins at the crankcase.





- Pay agent on to projection of 6 mm (arrow).

- Tighten M6 bolts of oil pan-to-timing case cover to 10 Nm
- Run engine and check for leaks.
