Electronic Accelerator

The electronic accelerator EA function in the ME control module determines the opening angle of the throttle valve by means of the EA/CC/ISC actuator (further designation: throttle valve actuator).

Further functions are:
- Idle speed control
- Cruise control mode
- Variable speed limiter
- 30 km/h limit
- Reducing engine torque for ASR/ESP mode
- Emergency running of electronic accelerator
- Actuating EPC malfunction indicator lamp (up to 5/96)
- Storing faults
- Data transfer over CAN

If these further functions are not active, the opening angle of the throttle valve is determined by the accelerator pedal input.

The accelerator pedal position is detected by the set value potentiometer (B37r1) or Hall sensor in the pedal value sensor (B37) and an information is output to the ME control module (N3/10). The ME control module in this way determines the throttle valve position and actuates the throttle valve motor (M16/1m1).

The actual value potentiometer in the actuator (M16/1r1) signals back the throttle valve position to the ME control module.

The second potentiometer in the actuator (M16/1r2) and the second signal from the pedal valve sensor (potentiometer or Hall sensor) supply a reference value for a plausibility check. In addition, a switchover is made to the second potentiometer or the Hall sensor if the first potentiometer or Hall sensor fails (emergency mode).
