Parking Brake System: Description and Operation
Parking Brake Adjuster Modifications
The adjustment device for the brake shoes was modified. Instead of the, previous version with star wheel adjustment, a gear drive adjuster is installed.
As a result, adjustment is considerably easier and can be performed with greater precision.
The adjustment device is accessible by removing one rear wheel bolt. The adjustment is made with a Phillips head screwdriver.
NOTE: Removal of the wheel is not necessary.
For adjustment procedure, refer to Adjustments.
Automatic Cable Length Equalization
The cable length equalization adjustment is not necessary after adjusting the brake shoes.
The cable length equalization takes place automatically via a spring loaded eccentric detent plate (b), which automatically takes up any play in the brake cable upon releasing the parking brake.
For removal and installation of brake shoes, brake cables, or replacing the complete rear axle, the automatic equalizer must be preloaded and then released.
