Potential risks

Risk of injury caused by refrigerant escaping from damaged assemblies filled with refrigerant under high pressure. This can lead to frostbite of body parts caused by escaping refrigerant. Risk of suffocation caused by refrigerants that are heavier than air.

Safety instructions/precautions
When working on assemblies that are filled with refrigerant make sure that the room receives sufficient ventilation.

Wear protective clothing, safety gloves and safety glasses.

Refrigerant in combination with open flames and hot surfaces can produce poisonous gasses. For this reason strong heat sources, smoking, fire and open flames are prohibited. A fire hazard also exists for nonflammable refrigerants due to oils or insulating material present in the refrigerant fluid.

Observe country-specific regulations.

First aid measures
If refrigerant is inhaled, move victim to fresh air, keep victim warm and calm and administer oxygen if necessary. Check for breathing. If there is no breathing or insufficient breathing, the preferable action is to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If necessary, carry out CPR.

If skin comes into contact with refrigerant, flush affected body part with water.
If eyes are affected immediately and thoroughly wash out eyes (making sure that eye lids are open) with plenty of clean water.

If any of these symptoms are present, contact a physician immediately.
