Check And Correct Headlamp Adjustment
Testing
1 Park vehicle on a level surface
- The vehicle level must not change when the brakes are operated.
- Vehicle must be in ready-for-the-road condition (unladen weight, fuel tank full or appropriate additional weight)
- Adjust tire inflation pressure to correct pressure.
- Have a person sit on driver's seat or place a load of 75 kg on seat.
- On vehicles with level control or ADS allow motor to run at a medium speed for approx. 30 seconds.
- Move vehicle back and forth to correctly adjust axle.
2 Read off adjustment value in %, for main and additional headlamp on vehicle headlamp or in the vicinity of the vehicle headlamp and adjust scale of headlamp adjustment tester.
NOTE: 1% inclination "n" corresponds to 10 cm adjustment dimension "e".
3.1 Align headlamp adjustment tester to vehicle and adjust height according to marking in lens

3.2 Align headlamp beam adjuster to the vehicle and carry out height setting according to middle of the lens.
NOTE: Follow the operating instructions for the headlamp beam adjuster correctly.

DANGER:
- Risk of accident. Accidents may result if the vehicle starts off unintentionally with the engine running. Risk of injury as working around the engine during start-up or while running may result in contusions and burns Allow engine to run, switch on low beams
- Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
- Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.
4.1 Check operation of headlamp beam adjustment (standard headlamps)
NOTE: The light beams from both headlamps should change uniformly.
4.2 Check operation of headlamp beam adjustment (if xenon headlamps fitted)
5 Set headlamp range control switch to position 0
NOTE: Remove additional weights on Xenon headlamp.
6 Check low beam
NOTE: By means of the common reflector unit on model 140 sedan as of approx. 03.94 and model 202, the low beam, high beam and fog lamp are adjusted simultaneously. Due to the common reflector unit on model 170 the low beams and fog lamps are adjusted simultaneously.
