Multiple Disc Brake
LOCATION
- With the planetary gear sets in the transmission housing three multiple-disc brakes are arranged as the front, center and rear multiple-disc brake B1, B3 and B2
TASK
- To support the internally-geared wheel, sun gear or planet carrier of a planetary gear set against the transmission housing to transmit the drive torque.
DESIGN
- A multiple-disc brake consists of several inner multiple-discs (10) on an inner multiple-disc carrier and outer multiple-discs (9) on an outer multiple-disc carrier which is rigidly connected to the transmission housing.
FUNCTION
- If oil pressure is applied to the piston (B1a) at the multiple-disc brake B1, this presses together the inner and outer multiple-discs of the multiple-disc pack. The sun gear (V1) is fixed at the housing via the inner multiple-disc carrier (V1). The planet gears (V2) roll on the sun gear (V1).
- If the multiple-disc brake B2 is engaged via the piston (B2a), this presses the multiple-disc pack together. The sun gear (M1) is fixed at the housing via the inner multiple-disc carrier (B2c). The planet gears (M2) roll on the sun gear (M1). If the multiple-disc brake B3 is engaged via the piston (B3a), the planet carrier (H3) and internally-geared wheel (M4) are fixed. The direction of rotation reverses when the multiple-disc brake B3 is engaged.
