Purpose

The occupied seat recognition feature prevents actuation of the passenger airbag, side airbag and emergency, tensioning retractor when the passenger seat is not occupied. It thereby prevents unnecessary actuation of the safety elements.

When a child seat (with transponder) is installed, the child seat recognition feature prevents actuation of the passenger airbag to protect the child.
