Technician Safety Information

Inspection and installation work must be performed and supervsed only by properly qualified persons.

Before Working on ETRs or any SRS component:

Models up to approximately June 1993

Red 10-Pin Connector (X11/13):





- Disconnect the ground cable of the battery. Cover/insulate the negative terminal and negative battery pole to ensure that they cannot accidentally come into contact with eachother again.
- Unplug the test connector/airbag and ETR connector (X11/13).

Models as of approx. July 1993
Always withdraw the ignition key before removing any SRS component; including airbags, side airbags and emergency tensioning retractors.

Other Information:





- Airbag and seat belt tensioner units should not be treated with grease cleaning or similar agents.
- Airbag and seat belt tensioner units should not be exposed to temperatures in excess of 100°C (212°F).
- Airbag and seat belt tensioner units which have been dropped from a height in excess of than 0.5 M (1.6 ft.) may no longer be installed in a vehicle.
- Airbag and seat belt tensioner units should only be electrically tested by means of stipulated testing devices when installed in vehicle.

WARNING: Airbag units must always be stored with the cushioned side facing up! If the gas generator is accidentally ignited with the airbag (cushioned side) facing down the entire unit is propelled forcibly upwards, creating the possibility of injury.
