Battery Cable: Service and Repair



Disconnect Ground Lead From Battery


Model Series 163:






Model 210:






1.1 Open engine hood
1.2 Remove rear seat
1.3 Fold rear seat cushion forwards and remove battery compartment cover
1.4 Flip up trunk cover
1.5 Remove cargo space cover
1.6 Remove battery cover on right-hand side in trunk
2 Disconnect ground cable of battery

NOTE: Models 163, 210: To protect against unwanted contact of the disconnected ground line (1) with the ground point W10 (model 210) or W16/4 (model 163), insulate cable lug of the ground line.

Connect auxiliary power source first if necessary.

- After opening the vehicle wait for at least 4 minutes before disconnecting the battery otherwise the alarm will be triggered.

3 Connect ground cable

NOTE: Tighten the nut (5) of the ground line (1) to the specified torque. Perform work described below only when quiescent current retention unit was not connected.

Nut of ground cable to body - 18 N.m

- MB Audio 5 (model 168)
- Radio Sound 10, 20, 30 and luxury Audio 10 radio D2B networked
- Becker Mexico .Grand Prix, Europa, Avus
- Hi-Line, Premium with Bose (model 163)

5 Set time at instrument cluster

NOTE: If necessary set time at stationary heater timer.

6 Activate steering angle sensor
7 Synchronize tilt/slide sunroof

NOTE: Open tilt/slide sunroof and hold down switch. Sliding/pop-up roof mechanism moves to end position, pulls back 1/4 turn and stops

8 Synchronize lamella sliding roof

NOTE: Close lamella roof and keep switch pressed for 5 to 10 seconds.

9 Synchronize power windows

NOTE: Press power windows switch up to the 1st pressure point and, after reaching the upper end position of the window, keep pressed for a further 5 seconds.
