Replacing Rear Axle Spring Actuator (Accumulator)






NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

WARNING:
^ Risk of Injury to skin or eyes due to hydraulic fluid spraying out under high pressure
^ Risk of poisoning due to consuming hydraulic fluid


NOTE:
^ Before starting work on the hydraulic system, depressurize the system
^ Wear protective clothing and safety gasses

REMOVAL
1. Empty pressure oil system at rear axle
2. When removing the left spring actuator,
- Loosen left cross brace (69) on vehicle floor
- Detach exhaust system from the mounts on the vehicle floor and secure with a hook to prevent it from tipping over
3. Disconnect pressure lines (S1 and P4) at spring actuator (4)
4. Unscrew nuts (4f) on spring actuator (4)
5. Remove spare wheel, then remove the spring actuator through the trunk

INSTALLATION
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Always replace self-locking nuts and bolts

WARNING:
^ Risk of injury from drilling gas filled units or components (gas fill is not inflammable)
^ Wear safety glasses and safety mask


- Dispose of spring actuator, refer to Disposal Of Spring Actuator (Accumulator)
- Tighten pressure line of level control/ADS to spring actuator as follows:
- 10 x 1 mm line: 14 Nm
- 16 x 1.5 mm line: 30 Nm
- Tighten nut for attaching spring actuator to bracket to: 10 Nm
- Tighten self-locking bolt of rear cross brace to frame floor to: 120 Nm
