Remove/Install Trans Housing at Converter Housing

REMOVAL
1. Secure transmission on assembling fixture tool No. 116 589 06 59 00, or equivalent
2. Detach oil pan (3)
3. Remove oil filter (5)
4. Remove Torx socket bolts (19a), then electric hydraulic control module (19)
5. Using socket tool No. 126 589 02 09 00, or equivalent, detach output flange (48)
6. Press out radial seal ring (20)
7. Remove circlip (68)
8. Remove deep-groove ball bearing (67) from transmission housing as follows:
a. Install clamping device tool No. 140 589 06 34 00 into puller 001 589 50 33 00, or assemble their equivalents.

b. Mount puller assembly completely over inner bearing race.
c. Securely clamp the clamping device into the bearing by turning the upper part of the puller counterclockwise (arrow in figure A)

d. Pull the deep groove bearing from the case using the puller assembly
9. Remove shim (18)
10. Remove Torx socket bolts (1a, 2a) from converter housing and transmission housing ,
11. Remove transmission housing (2) from converter housing (1)
12. Remove multiple disc brake B2, multiple-disc pack B3 and parking lock gear.
13. Remove parking lock mechanism

INSTALLATION
1. Install parking lock mechanism
2. Install multiple-disc brake B2, multiple-disc pack B3 and parking lock gear
3. Using grease, install both Teflon rings (12a) in the groove so that the joint stays together
4. Mount transmission housing (2) on converter housing (1)
- Align the multiple-discs of the multiple-disc brakes B2 and B3
5. Tighten Torx socket bolts (1a, 2a) to: 20 Nm
6. If installing new internal parts, measure axial play between deep groove ball bearing and parking lock gear to determine required shim as follows:

a. To determine dimension "a" place a parallel on transmission housing, then using a suitable depth gauge measure depth from parallel to parking lock gear

b. To determine dimension "b", measure from the parallel to the contact shoulder of the deep groove ball bearing in the transmission case
c. Determine actual axial play "E" using the following formula:
- Dimension "a" minus dimension "b" equals actual axial Play "E"
d. Determine required shim (18) as follows:
- Actual axial play "E" minus 0.40 mm equals required shim

EXAMPLE:
Dimension "a" 49.90 mm
Dimension "b" 49.00 mm
Difference 0.90 mm
Standard Value:
Dimension "E" 0.40 mm
Required Shim 0.50 mm

NOTE: Shims (18) are available in thicknesses of 0.20, 0.30, 0.40 and 0.50 mm

7. Install deep-groove ball bearing in rear of transmission housing as follows:
a. Using a suitable driver press the deep groove ball bearing (67) fully into the transmission housing
- The closed side of the bearing must point towards the parking lock gear
b. Install retaining circlip (68)
- Ensure the circlip is fully seated

c. Check that there is no play between bearing and circlip
- If circlip cannot be installed, select a thinner circlip
- If play is found between circlip and bearing select a thicker circlip

NOTE: Circlips are available in thicknesses of 2.00, 2.10 and 2.20 mm

8. Using driver tool No. 140 589 12 15 00, or equivalent, drive radial seal ring (20) into transmission housing
9. Install output flange (48) as follows
a. Lock the transmission shaft by engaging the parking lock

b. Install output flange onto transmission shaft, then install twelve point collard nut
c. Using socket tool, tighten collared nut to: 200 Nm
d. Using a suitable shop made tool, stake twelve point collared nut into recess in transmission shaft (arrow)
10. Install electric hydraulic control module (19), tighten Torx screws to: 8 Nm
11. Install oil filter (5)
12. Mount oil pan (3), tighten bolts to: 8 Nm
13. Insert 13 pin connector guide bush (21) into transmission housing and tighten
